The Modern Home Chef is a team of private chefs with something rare in Portland: actual nutrition training. Chef Rafi holds a B.S. in Clinical Nutrition from UC Davis and trained at Le Cordon Bleu Paris. He built this team to bring that same standard into your kitchen every week.
We cook in your home (or deliver). We shop, prep, portion, label, and clean up. You open your fridge to a week of meals built around your body, your goals, and your family's actual preferences.

How our Meal Prep Service works:
Let’s dive right in and get to know one another! We offer a free phone consultation so we can talk about your nutritional goals: addressing food intolerance, allergies, specialty diets, weight management, etc.
From there we will have you fill out an intake form to learn more about your preferences.

And so the time has come! You will decide what service you want and we will either come to your home to meal prep or to host a dinner party.
On the day of your scheduled cook date, our chef will go grocery shopping, prepare all the dishes from the menu and leave the kitchen clean.

Now for the fun part! Our chef creates a menu catered to your liking. Rafi’s background in ethnic cuisine and nutrition will come by no surprise that my meals are nourishing, healthy and always fresh.

We offer weekly in-home or delivered meal prep, private chef services for regular household cooking, and event and dinner party catering. Every service starts with a free consultation to understand your household's needs.

It starts with a free consultation where we learn about your dietary needs, preferences, and schedule. From there, we send a personalized menu proposal every weekend for you to review and approve by Sunday. On your cook day, we arrive with groceries, cook your full week of meals in your kitchen, store everything in reusable glass containers, and leave your kitchen clean.
If you opt for a delivery service, we shop, prepare the meals in our Licensed Kitchen, and drop off the same day. -
The credential combination is uncommon. Chef Rafi holds a B.S. in Clinical Nutrition from UC Davis and a professional culinary certification from Le Cordon Bleu Paris, and we work with a team of rigorously trained chefs who share that same commitment to both culinary craft and nutritional understanding. Most private chefs are trained cooks. Most nutritionists don't cook professionally. Having both in the same team means your meals are built with real culinary skill and real nutritional science working together, not one approximating the other.
Our approach to meal prep is built around how you actually want to eat, not just how to get food into a container. Everything is stored in reusable glass, and components are stored thoughtfully based on how each client prefers to reheat their meals. Proteins, grains, vegetables, and sauces are kept separate so nothing gets compromised in storage. We can also scale portions as your household needs shift, whether guests are coming or your week looks different than usual. We work on a half day and full day service model, so you can structure the service around exactly what your household needs, nothing more, nothing less.

Yes. For clients who prefer not to have anyone in their home, we prepare meals in a Licensed Commercial Kitchen and deliver them same day. Same quality, same personalization, different setup.

Chef Rafi's travels in Europe, the Middle East, South America, Latin America, Africa, Southeast Asia and China have equipped him with the knowledge and experience to cook a wide variety of cuisines. He has been cooking in restaurants, the homes of celebrities, athletes and executive’s families for over 9 years. In 2021, Chef Rafi became certified with Le Cordon Bleu Paris.
